The Sydenham Pit and Pumping Station was constructed in 1941 in response to the increased urbanization of the Marrickville area. The pit is lined with sandstones block and forms a critical part of the local storm water infrastructure and it is also of historic, aesthetic and technical significance.
This site provided challenges to traditional inspection techniques as a result of its tall, steep, inaccessible walls and hazardous water. Abyss provided a remote inspection (at up to 20 m of distance), locating and geo-tagging faults and reporting high-definition images of the less than 2 mm wide cracks and other defects, reducing drastically the complexity, safety risk and cost of the inspection operations.
