Abyss deployed its remotely operated rover to inspect a 34 km canal, known as Upper Canal.
Built in the 1880s, the canal is listed on the State Heritage Register, and still the only way of transferring water to Sydney from the four Upper Nepean dams, responsible for the supply on average 20 per cent of Sydney’s water.
Abyss’ team has specifically modified an existing rover, adding important features such as high-resolution cameras and sensors which enabled accurate and fast data collection. Furthermore, the high volume of collected data was analyzed using machine learning algorithms to prove the efficiency and accuracy of our feature detection algorithms, which was able to analyse 600,000 photos in 5 hours.
