“I am originally from the Netherlands. My background is in mechanical and control engineering with an interest in the field of robotics. Early 2020, I moved to Australia where I started at Abyss as part of the field robotics team.
My main responsibility is the development of new sensors and robotic platforms. Applying cutting-edge technologies and using advanced sensors for the projects I work on drives me. Next to development, I also go out in the field to deploy our sensors. Being in the demanding environment of a field operation gives me valuable insights into how a design functions and how it’s being used. So far, I travelled to Africa, the middle east, and locally within Australia in the last year with more locations around the world to come.”

This role will require leadership responsibilities including strong communication, organisation, and project management skills. Successful candidates will be passionate about leading teams, be a team player, and enjoy challenging, hands-on projects.
You will be a trusted partner to both internal and external stakeholders, guiding teams to ensure both Abyss and client objectives are understood and accurately reflected in offers and during project execution.
This role will require you to travel for internal and client meetings where you will provide input to scope definition and clarity about Abyss solutions and there impact on client operations.
We are searching for a practically-minded engineer to aid in the field deployment of new imagery data capturing technologies as well as assist in the development of new data acquisition systems. In the field, you will test, operate, and maintain the fleet of robotic platforms, solve problems both unforeseen and expected, and ensure the delivery of our cutting-edge data products.
When not in the field, you will work within a dynamic and agile development-driven team to assist in the fabrication of new platforms, repair of equipment and process images from different types of acquisition-scanning systems. Successful candidates will enjoy challenging and sometimes physical work whilst having a strong commitment to safety. Abyss will offer a very competitive market-based salary package.
